When I first started thinking about becoming a life coach I was certain everyone would think it was A) weird B) a waste of time and C) weird. But what actually happened, surprised me.
While, yes, there was one particular person who just didn't get it. He worried I would somehow throw away the nice life I had and end up on the street. Because, a life coach... is that even a real job??
But every single other person was really interested and curious about it. There was some very unexpected envy from a few who were pretty miserable in their own lives who expressed their wish that they had the wherewithal to follow the thing that was calling their name, like coaching was calling mine.
And now, a few years later, I'm embarking on this new project and podcast, I'm super aware how different it feels.
It started out as an idea that just felt big.
I had zero worries about what anyone would think.
I've had some worries about actually making it big, but overall, it's felt more like this very natural feeling, very important project that I am specifically tasked with putting out into the world.
I was talking to a friend recently, describing the difference between how I felt about pursuing coaching a few years ago to how this project has felt, and she said one word that really sums it up: Growth.
I've grown so much in taking some bold steps, in practicing courage on a regular basis. I've grown and I've changed.
If you have an idea, but are feeling anxious about going public with it
If you feel like you might want to revisit that creative project you set aside years ago but aren't sure "you've still got it"
If you want to start being open with friends and family about what you're doing on the side
but you feel like you could use a little help to get this growth thing happening... Amy Cuddy's Ted Talk about how we can use our bodies to change our own minds - it's a great place to start!
Just try spending two minutes power posing, and watch your thoughts and interactions change.
This is not about being fake or "faking it 'til you make it", it's about giving yourself a little help, a little boost... until you become that person you really are meant to be.
Get inspired by others who are doing what they love and just maybe... also faking it 'til they become it... over at Doing It On the Side, The Side Passion Project podcast!
